BILL Alternatives in 2026: AP and AR Tools Compared on Price

Seven AP and AR platforms a BILL customer can move to, with a two-user, 30-bill month totaled where the vendor publishes every fee.

TL;DR

Short answer: Ramp's free plan is the cheapest BILL alternative we can fully total. For two users paying 30 vendor bills a month, 25 by ACH and 5 by check, Ramp's bill-pay fees come to $24.70 a month, or $296.40 a year. BILL Team, the first BILL plan with automatic QuickBooks and Xero sync, comes to $154.70 a month, or $1,856.40 a year, for the same month.

Melio Core is the runner-up at $456 a year on annual billing, and Rho charges no subscription or domestic payment fees when bills are paid from its checking account. Tipalti, Stampli and Routable fit larger or global AP teams and price through a quote or a high floor. Prices were read on each vendor's pricing page on 18 October 2026.

Key facts7 tools compared: Ramp, Melio, Rho, Brex, Tipalti, Stampli, Routable
  • Updated: October 23, 2026
  • Top pick: Ramp (best for: Small teams on QuickBooks Online or Xero that want AP with no seat fee)
  • Top pick price as of October 23, 2026: Ramp: Free plan with no seat fee; Plus $15/user/mo plus a platform fee by team size; ACH $0.59, check $1.99
  • 7 tools compared: Ramp, Melio, Rho, Brex, Tipalti, Stampli, Routable
  • Melio (best for: Very small teams that want a flat plan fee and free ACH allowances): Core $25/mo or $20/mo yearly, plus $10 or $8 per extra user; 20 free ACH a month
  • Rho (best for: Startups willing to move operating cash into the same account that pays vendors): No subscription or per-user fee; same-day ACH, wires and checks free from Rho checking
  • Brex (best for: Venture-backed teams that want cards, expenses and bill pay in one account): Essentials free per user with bill pay; Premium $12/user/mo

BILL prices accounts payable per user: Essentials at $49, Team at $65 and Corporate at $89 a user a month, with Enterprise on a quote. Each payment then carries its own fee, $0.59 for an ACH and $1.99 for a mailed check, so a small team pays twice, once for seats and once for volume. Teams leaving BILL usually want to cut the seat line, get accounting sync without the Team upgrade, or keep AP and the bank account in one place.

Toolradar data: BILL is listed as an alternative to 22 tools on Toolradar, 18th among the 191 payment processing tools it tracks, and only 32% of those tools offer a free plan, a group BILL is not part of (October 2026). The full list is on BILL alternatives on Toolradar, and the record is BILL on Toolradar.

This page costs a deliberately small month, two users and 30 bills, because that is where BILL's seat fee is the largest share of the bill. Larger teams should read our AP automation pricing comparison, and teams weighing one specific switch can read Ramp vs BILL or Tipalti vs BILL.

What it is

A BILL alternative is a platform that takes vendor bills from capture to payment, with approvals, payment methods and sync to the general ledger, and often sends customer invoices too. Our guide to AP automation explains the steps these tools replace.

BILL covers both sides on every plan: bills, approvals and payments for AP, and invoices, reminders and ACH or card collection for AR. Its full review covers the product; this page is about leaving it. Every alternative below covers the AP side, and Ramp, Melio and Rho also include invoicing, so a team that sends customer invoices from BILL can move both workflows at once.

Why it matters

The seat fee is the biggest lever for a small team. BILL's cheapest plan already costs $98 a month for two users before a single payment, and Essentials syncs with QuickBooks and Xero only by CSV import and export. Automatic two-way sync starts on Team, which raises two seats to $130 a month.

Per-payment fees, by contrast, are close across the cheap options. Ramp charges the same $0.59 ACH and $1.99 check as BILL outside its own checking account, Melio charges $0.50 per ACH after its free allowance and $1.50 per check, and Rho charges nothing for domestic payments from its checking account. Moving from BILL saves money mostly by removing seats, not by cheaper payments.

Control is the reason to stay. BILL Corporate adds custom approval policies, single sign-on, multi-entity accounting and procurement, and Enterprise adds NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Dynamics sync with dual control. Check those needs before you treat the cheapest total as the answer.

Key features to look for

Published total
BILL, Ramp and Melio publish every fee our scenario triggers, so a monthly total can be computed from their own pages. Tipalti, Stampli and Routable publish a floor or nothing, and Brex lists no per-payment fees on its pricing page.
Seat pricing
BILL charges per user on every plan. Ramp Free and Brex Essentials charge nothing per user, Rho has no per-user fee, Melio adds a fee per extra user, and Tipalti and Routable include unlimited users.
Accounting sync
BILL Essentials relies on CSV import. Ramp Free syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero, Melio Core adds both, and NetSuite sync needs Melio Unlimited, Ramp Plus or BILL Enterprise.
Fee waivers tied to a bank account
Ramp waives standard ACH, check, same-day ACH and wire fees when bills are paid from Ramp Checking, and Rho's free payments apply to its checking account. The saving depends on moving operating cash.
Receivables
BILL bundles AR on every plan. Melio includes free AR and invoicing with payment links, Ramp lists invoice creation and ACH, card and check collection, and Rho includes invoicing.

Pricing

How we ranked: we priced each vendor on its own pricing and fee pages on 18 October 2026, for one scenario: two users, 30 domestic vendor bills a month, 25 paid by ACH and 5 by mailed check, paid from an outside bank account unless a waiver is named. Tools that publish every fee are ranked by the total. The others are listed by fit, with the price they publish.

BILL (BILL pricing): Essentials is 2 x $49 = $98, plus 25 x $0.59 = $14.75 in ACH fees and 5 x $1.99 = $9.95 in check fees, for $122.70 a month or $1,472.40 a year. Team, with automatic QuickBooks and Xero sync, is 2 x $65 = $130 plus the same $24.70 in payment fees, for $154.70 a month or $1,856.40 a year.

Ramp (Ramp pricing, Ramp bill pay fees): Free has no seat fee, so the month is the $24.70 in ACH and check fees, or $296.40 a year. Paid from Ramp Checking, those standard fees are waived and the scenario drops to $0. That is $1,560 a year less than BILL Team for the same 30 bills.

Melio (Melio pricing): Core on annual billing is $20 for the first user plus $8 for the second. Twenty ACH payments are free, so 5 cost $0.50 each, and 5 checks cost $1.50 each, for $38 a month or $456 a year. On monthly billing the same month is $45. Melio's free Go plan is limited to one user, so it does not fit a two-person team.

Rho (Rho pricing) lists no subscription, per-user or domestic payment fees from its checking account, so this domestic scenario has no platform cost when Rho is the operating account. Brex (Brex pricing) includes bill pay on Essentials at $0 per user, but its pricing page lists no per-payment fees, so we do not total it.

Tipalti (Tipalti pricing) starts at $99 a month with transaction fees on quote. Stampli (Stampli pricing) is quote-only, with payments free for customers. Routable (Routable pricing) starts at $1,250 a month on Growth. None of the three can be totaled for this scenario from its own page.

Mistakes to avoid
×Comparing seat prices alone. BILL, Ramp and Melio all charge per payment outside a waiver, so the payment line has to be added before the totals mean anything.
×Counting a waiver you will not use. Ramp's and Rho's free payments depend on paying from their checking accounts, which means moving operating cash.
×Forgetting what the cheap plan cannot sync. BILL Essentials uses CSV files, Melio Go is one user only, and NetSuite sync needs a higher plan on every option here.
Expert tips
→Export three months of BILL payment history and count ACH, check, wire and card payments before comparing totals.
→List the approvers who need a seat on BILL and check whether the new tool charges for them; Ramp Free and Rho do not.
→Ask a quote-only vendor for its fee on one domestic ACH and one check in writing, then run the same 30-bill month.

The bottom line

Ramp Free is the cheapest BILL alternative we can fully total. At $296.40 a year for this two-user month, it costs about a sixth of BILL Team, and nothing at all for standard payments funded from Ramp Checking. Its limits: sync only with QuickBooks Online and Xero on Free, and $15 domestic wires outside Ramp Checking.

Melio Core is the pick for a team that wants a flat plan fee and free ACH allowances without changing banks. Rho fits a startup ready to move its operating account. Brex suits teams that also want corporate cards, and Tipalti, Stampli and Routable are for global or high-volume AP rather than a 30-bill month. The tool records are on Ramp on Toolradar and Melio on Toolradar.

Stay on BILL if you need Corporate's custom approval policies, procurement or multi-entity accounting at a small seat count. For the wider field, see our best AP automation software and best AR automation software lists, the BILL pricing breakdown, Ramp pricing, and the Tipalti alternatives page.
