TL;DR

Short answer: Ramp's Free plan is the cheapest Tipalti alternative we can fully total. For a US company with four people approving bills and 60 vendor payments a month, 50 by ACH and 10 by check, Ramp's bill-pay fees come to $49.40 a month, or $592.80 a year. Melio Core on annual billing is next at $888 a year, and BILL Essentials costs $2,944.80 a year at the same volume. Tipalti's $99 monthly AP floor alone is $1,188 a year, before the per-invoice and per-payment fees it does not publish.

Key facts7 tools compared: BILL, Ramp, Melio, Routable, Payhawk, Stampli, AvidXchange
  • Updated: October 10, 2026
  • Top pick: BILL (best for: US teams that want per-user AP with QuickBooks or Xero sync and published ACH and check fees)
  • Top pick price as of October 10, 2026: BILL: From $49/user/mo (Essentials); Team $65/user/mo for automatic 2-way sync
  • 7 tools compared: BILL, Ramp, Melio, Routable, Payhawk, Stampli, AvidXchange
  • Ramp (best for: Cost-led teams on QuickBooks Online or Xero that want AP with no seat fee on the free plan): Free at $0/user/mo for AP; Plus $15/user/mo plus a platform fee not published
  • Melio (best for: Teams that want a flat monthly price, unlimited free ACH on the top plan and flat-fee USD international payments): Core from $25/mo plus $10/user, cheaper billed annually; 20 free ACH a month, then $0.50 each
  • Routable (best for: Teams with international payouts that want unlimited seats on one plan price, plus per-transaction fees): Growth $1,575/mo billed monthly or $1,250/mo billed annually; per-payment fees not listed

Tipalti publishes two starting prices: $99 a month for Accounts Payable and $249 a month for Mass Payments, both with unlimited users. Its per-invoice and per-payment transaction fees, and its modules, sit behind a custom quote, so the total cannot be checked before a sales call.

Buyers looking for an alternative usually want that total first.

CFOpresso data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, lists 7 direct alternatives to Tipalti as of October 2026.

We priced seven AP platforms on 10 October 2026. Three publish every fee needed for a total at one scenario: Ramp, Melio and BILL. Two publish a starting price with volume fees left out, and two are quote-only.

This page costs the alternatives for one scenario.

It is deliberately smaller than the 200-bill, international case in our AP automation pricing comparison, because at 60 bills a month a fixed monthly floor is a large share of the whole bill, and the per-payment fees that would sit on top of it are the part a leader does not publish.

What it is

A Tipalti alternative is an accounts payable platform that takes a vendor bill from intake to payment, with approvals, supplier payments and sync to the general ledger. Our AP automation guide covers the five steps these tools replace.

Tipalti is strongest on global mass payouts. The cheaper options here price in one of three ways: a per-user subscription, a flat plan fee, or per-payment fees alone. Several combine a plan fee with per-payment charges. Tipalti's published price covers only the subscription.

Why it matters

A buyer usually looks for a Tipalti alternative for one of three reasons: the total is unclear before signing, the monthly volume sits well below what a global payables platform is built for, or they want a bank account or card in the same product.

The cost question comes first, because the answer changes the shortlist. Our Tipalti review covers the product itself. This page covers only what each alternative costs for one scenario.

Read the fee schedules, not the headline price.

Ramp's pricing page advertises free wires under Bill Pay, but its bill-pay fee page charges a fee on domestic and SWIFT USD wires unless the payment is funded from a Ramp Checking Account.

For a team that pays from an outside bank, the advertised free wire does not apply. Our Ramp pricing guide and Ramp alternatives page go deeper on that question.

The scenario is the reason these numbers matter.

At 60 bills a month, Tipalti's monthly floor is more than the whole Ramp bill-pay cost, and at higher volume the order changes. Read the flip point in the tips before you pick.

Key features to look for

Published total
BILL, Ramp and Melio publish each fee an AP payment triggers, so a monthly total can be computed from the vendor's own page. Tipalti, Payhawk and Routable publish a starting price but not every per-payment charge.
Free tier and its limits
Ramp Free covers AP with no per-user fee and configurable approvals. Melio Free allows one user and 5 free ACH payments a month. BILL's free product is Spend & Expense, not AP.
ERP and accounting sync
Ramp Free syncs only with QuickBooks Online and Xero, while NetSuite and Sage Intacct start on Ramp Plus. Melio sync starts on Core, and BILL Team adds automatic 2-way sync. BILL Essentials relies on CSV import and export.
International payments
BILL charges $19.99 for an international USD wire and Ramp charges $20 for a SWIFT USD wire outside Ramp Checking. Melio charges a flat fee for a USD global ACH payment. Routable includes international payments in its flat Growth plan.
Volume-based pricing
Payhawk's AP price moves with plan add-ons, admin seats, cards and transaction volume. Routable's per-transaction fee varies by method and speed, and the page gives no figures.

Pricing

How we ranked: we priced each vendor on its own pricing and fee pages, checked in October 2026, for one scenario: four approvers, 60 vendor bills a month, 50 paid by ACH and 10 by check, all domestic, billed monthly unless a yearly price is named.

A vendor enters the cost ranking only when every fee that scenario triggers is published.

Tipalti, Payhawk and Routable publish starting prices but not every per-payment charge, so we show their floors and leave them out of the ranking.

Tipalti's pricing page lists Accounts Payable from $99 a month and Mass Payments from $249 a month, both with unlimited users, then sends transaction pricing and modules to a custom quote.

Ramp's pricing page lists a Free plan with no per-user fee, and Plus at $15 per user a month plus a platform fee that Ramp does not publish, with 20% off on annual billing.

Its bill-pay fee page charges $0.59 per standard ACH and $1.99 per standard check, effective June 1, 2026, and waives them when the payment comes from a Ramp Checking Account.

BILL's pricing page lists Essentials at $49, Team at $65 and Corporate at $89 per user a month, and its fee table lists separate ACH and check charges.

Our BILL pricing guide covers that fee detail. Melio's pricing page sets Core, Boost and Unlimited prices, and its fee table charges $1.50 per check.

Routable's pricing page lists Growth at $1,575 a month billed monthly or $1,250 billed annually. Payhawk's pricing page starts Accounts Payable at $349 a month, and Stampli's pricing page offers a quote only.

Our Stampli review covers the product itself.

Every figure above was checked on those vendor pages in October 2026, in US dollars.

Cross-check each product on its Toolradar profile: Tipalti, BILL, Ramp, Melio and Routable.

Costs in the table use the list price of the plan named, with each per-payment fee multiplied by the monthly count.

Mistakes to avoid
×Comparing a per-user price with a per-payment fee schedule. BILL, Ramp and Melio all charge per payment on top of any seat fee, so the seat price alone understates the bill.
×Forgetting that Ramp's waiver needs a Ramp Checking Account. Fees disappear only for payments funded from that account, not from an outside bank.
×Taking Tipalti's starting price as its price. The floor leaves out the per-invoice and per-payment transaction fees, which Tipalti does not publish.
Expert tips
→Ask each vendor in writing for the fee on one domestic ACH, one check and one international payment, then multiply by your own monthly counts.
→Check the ERP connector before comparing prices. Ramp Free syncs only with QuickBooks Online and Xero, and BILL Essentials relies on CSV import.
→Find your flip point. With 10 checks a month, Melio Unlimited on annual billing undercuts Ramp Free's fees once a company pays more than 100 ACH payments a month.

The bottom line

Ramp Free is the cheapest alternative we can fully total for this scenario. At $592.80 a year, it costs about two-thirds of Melio Core on annual billing and about a fifth of BILL Essentials.

Its gaps are real, though: the free plan syncs only with QuickBooks Online and Xero, and NetSuite or Sage Intacct sync starts on a plan with an unpublished platform fee.

Melio is the flat-fee option.

On annual billing, Core costs $888 a year and Unlimited costs $948 a year at 60 bills, and Unlimited undercuts Ramp Free's fees as ACH volume grows.

BILL is the familiar pick for QuickBooks and Xero teams, but at $2,944.80 a year on Essentials, or $3,712.80 on Team, it costs several times the cheapest option.

For the wider field, see our best AP automation software list.

Tipalti earns its place for global, high-volume payables. Its starting price already comes to $1,188 a year before any per-invoice or per-payment fee, so the case for Tipalti has to rest on global payouts and volume, which this scenario does not have.

If you cannot get its fees in writing, put the floor next to the totals above and ask for the rest.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest Tipalti alternative in 2026?
For a US company with four approvers paying 60 bills a month, 50 by ACH and 10 by check, Ramp's Free plan is the cheapest we can total: $49.40 a month in bill-pay fees, or $592.80 a year, checked on vendor pages in October 2026. Those fees drop to $0 when payments come from a Ramp Checking Account. Melio Core on annual billing is next at $888 a year.
How much does Tipalti cost?
Tipalti publishes a starting price for Accounts Payable and for Mass Payments, both with unlimited users. Its per-invoice and per-payment transaction fees are not published, and modules and larger deals go to a custom quote. The full cost cannot be checked from its pricing page, so the starting price is a minimum, not a total.
Is there a free Tipalti alternative?
Yes, with limits. Ramp's Free plan includes AP with no per-user fee, but it charges bill-pay fees on each payment that does not come from Ramp Checking, and syncs only with QuickBooks Online and Xero. Melio's Free plan covers one user and 5 free ACH payments a month, then $0.50 per ACH payment. BILL's free product is Spend & Expense, not its AP software.
Which Tipalti alternative is best for international payments?
Routable's Growth plan includes international payments in a flat monthly fee, but its per-transaction fees are not listed, so its total cannot be computed. Among the fully priced options, BILL charges $19.99 for an international USD wire, Ramp charges $20 for a SWIFT USD wire outside Ramp Checking, and Melio charges a flat fee for a USD global ACH payment.
Do BILL and Ramp charge for every payment?
Not always. BILL charges a fee on each ACH and check payment, though virtual card payments are free. Ramp charges $0.59 per standard ACH and $1.99 per standard check, fees that took effect June 1, 2026, unless the payment comes from a Ramp Checking Account, where those standard fees are waived.
