Airbase Alternatives 2026: Spend Platforms After Paylocity

Seven spend platforms a finance team can move to now that Airbase is part of Paylocity, compared on cards, AP, procurement and per-user pricing.

TL;DR

Ramp is the closest Airbase alternative in 2026: its Free plan covers corporate cards, bill pay with approval workflows, expenses and travel, and procurement is an add-on to its Plus plan at $15 per user per month plus a platform fee. BILL fits teams that think AP first, with a free Spend & Expense product and AP plans from $49 per user per month. Brex suits card-led companies, and Zip or Procurify replace Airbase's guided procurement for teams where purchase requests are the main job.

Airbase itself still runs: Paylocity completed the acquisition on 1 October 2024 and now sells it as Paylocity for Finance, priced through a demo. A switch makes sense if you do not run Paylocity payroll, want a printed price, or need a free entry plan. Prices read on each vendor's page in October 2026.

Key facts7 tools compared: Ramp, BILL, Brex, Zip, Procurify, Emburse Spend, Navan
  • Updated: November 7, 2026
  • Top pick: Ramp (best for: Airbase customers who want cards, AP, expenses and procurement in one platform with a free entry plan)
  • Top pick price as of November 7, 2026: Ramp: Free plan; Plus $15/user/mo plus a platform fee; Enterprise custom
  • 7 tools compared: Ramp, BILL, Brex, Zip, Procurify, Emburse Spend, Navan
  • BILL (best for: Teams whose heaviest Airbase module was accounts payable and vendor payments): Spend & Expense free; AP and AR from $49/user/mo (Essentials)
  • Brex (best for: Card-led companies that want bill pay, reimbursements and travel without a procurement module): Essentials free; Premium $12/user/mo; Enterprise custom
  • Zip (best for: Mid-market and enterprise teams that used Airbase mainly for purchase intake and approvals): Quote-only; Zip prints no price

Airbase did not shut down. It changed owner. Paylocity completed its purchase of Airbase on 1 October 2024, and airbase.com now presents the product as Paylocity for Finance, combining spend management with Paylocity's HR and payroll platform. Existing clients keep their contacts, and Paylocity's pricing page asks for a demo before it quotes. The question for an Airbase customer is whether that bundle fits a company that buys payroll elsewhere.

CFOpresso data: Toolradar, the software directory Dupple runs, compared 87 expense management tools as of October 2026, and 49% of them offer a free plan. Airbase is not one of them, and it is listed as an alternative to 5 other tools there. Four of the seven picks below are free for some part of the job, which is the main price argument for moving.

How we ranked: in October 2026 we read the pricing page, plan FAQ and help-center terms of each vendor, then ordered the list by how much of Airbase's four modules (cards, AP, expenses, procurement) each one replaces and how much of its price it prints. We ran no hands-on tests. The Airbase review covers what you would be leaving.

What it is

An Airbase alternative is a spend management platform that puts corporate cards, bill pay, employee reimbursements and purchase approvals in one system that syncs to the general ledger. Some rivals cover all four modules (Ramp, BILL, Brex). Others go deeper on one: Zip and Procurify on procurement intake and purchase orders, Emburse on expense reports, Navan on travel booking with expenses attached.

Why it matters

Three things push a finance team to price alternatives. The first is the bundle. Paylocity for Finance is built on the employee record in Paylocity's HCM, which is a strength for a Paylocity payroll customer and an extra dependency for a company on Gusto, ADP or Rippling. If payroll is staying where it is, compare the standalone platforms before the next renewal.

The second is price visibility. Paylocity quotes after a demo, while Ramp, BILL, Brex, Emburse and Navan print at least an entry price. A controller who has to defend the line item in a budget review can start from a number instead of a sales call. The third is scope: Airbase sold one platform across four modules, and most teams used two of them heavily, so a cheaper specialist can cover the module you actually use.

For the head-to-heads behind this list, read Ramp vs BILL and Ramp vs Brex. The wider market is in the spend management platforms ranking and, for procurement-led teams, the procurement software ranking.

Key features to look for

Modules covered
Airbase bundled cards, AP, expenses and procurement. Ramp and BILL cover all four, Brex covers cards, bill pay, expenses and travel, and Zip, Procurify, Emburse and Navan each lead with one module.
Pricing basis
Ramp and Brex price paid plans per user, BILL prices AP per user, Emburse and Navan bill active expense users, and Procurify quotes on Pro users with unlimited Basic requesters.
Free entry plan
Ramp Free, BILL Spend & Expense and Brex Essentials charge no software fee. Navan's travel is free for companies of up to 300 employees.
Procurement depth
Zip and Procurify build intake, purchase orders and approvals as the core product. Ramp sells procurement as an add-on to Plus or Enterprise, and BILL includes unlimited purchase requesters on Corporate.
ERP sync
Ramp puts NetSuite and Sage Intacct on Plus, Emburse puts them on its Plus plan, BILL's Enterprise plan adds a two-way sync with NetSuite and Sage Intacct, and Brex lists NetSuite on Essentials.

Pricing

Airbase's own price is a quote: Paylocity's pricing page offers pricing with a demo for its finance suite, so the alternatives below are the numbers you can compare it against.

Our arithmetic for a 40-person company where 25 people file expenses each month and 3 people run AP. On the expense side, Emburse Spend Basic is $200 a month on monthly billing for the 25 filers, or $175 a month on an annual plan, which Emburse's help center allows from 20 active users. Emburse Plus is $300 monthly or $275 annually. If Navan's per-user fee applies to each filer after the first five, the same team costs $300 a month on Navan Expense; confirm that reading with Navan before you budget it.

On the AP side, BILL bills each AP user: three users cost $147 a month on Essentials, $195 on Team and $267 on Corporate, before $0.59 per standard ACH payment, and its Spend & Expense cards add no software fee. Ramp Free and Brex Essentials add no software fee for the same company. If all 40 people are users, Brex Premium comes to $480 a month and Ramp Plus to $600 a month before its platform fee; Ramp says annual billing saves 20%.

Zip and Procurify print no price, so a procurement-led switch starts with two quotes. Procurify bills Pro users and gives unlimited Basic requesters, which keeps a company-wide request flow from inflating the seat count.

Mistakes to avoid
×Assuming Airbase is going away: Paylocity still sells and supports it as Paylocity for Finance, so the case for switching is fit and price, not a shutdown deadline.
×Pricing every employee as a seat: Emburse and Navan bill people who file expenses, Procurify bills Pro users, and BILL bills AP users, so count who does what before comparing.
×Replacing four modules with one specialist: Emburse Spend and Navan plans cover expenses and travel, not vendor bills, so a single-module pick usually needs a second tool.
Expert tips
→Export open purchase orders, vendor records, approval chains and card limits from Airbase before cancelling, and run both tools through one month-end close.
→List which Airbase modules your team used last quarter; if it was mostly cards and expenses, a $0 plan from Ramp, BILL or Brex covers it.
→Ask Paylocity for a renewal quote at the same time as the alternatives, so the comparison uses two real numbers.

The bottom line

Ramp should be the first demo for a team that used all four Airbase modules and wants a free starting point. BILL wins when AP volume drives the decision, and Brex when the card program does. Zip and Procurify are the procurement-first replacements, Emburse Spend suits expense-led teams, and Navan fits companies whose spend is mostly travel. Staying on Paylocity for Finance is the sensible call for a company that already runs Paylocity payroll.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Airbase alternative in 2026?

Ramp is the closest replacement because it covers cards, bill pay, expenses and procurement in one platform, with a Free plan and a paid Plus plan billed per user plus a platform fee. BILL is the pick for AP-heavy teams, Brex for card-led companies, and Zip or Procurify when procurement intake is the main job. Prices were read on vendor pages in October 2026.

Is Airbase still available after the Paylocity acquisition?

Yes. Paylocity completed the acquisition on 1 October 2024 and sells the product as Paylocity for Finance, combined with its HR and payroll platform. Airbase's site tells existing clients they can keep working with their current contacts. Pricing comes through a demo with Paylocity.

Which Airbase alternative is free?

Ramp Free, BILL Spend & Expense and Brex Essentials charge no per-user software fee for cards and expenses. BILL's AP product is paid, from $49 per user per month on Essentials. Navan's travel booking is free for companies of up to 300 employees, and its expense product is free for the first 5 monthly expensing users.

Which alternative replaces Airbase's procurement module?

Zip and Procurify are built around purchase intake, approvals and purchase orders, and both price by quote. Procurify gives every customer unlimited Basic requesters and bills Pro users. Ramp sells procurement as an add-on to its Plus and Enterprise plans, with automated purchase orders and three-way match.

How much does an Airbase alternative cost for a 40-person company?

It depends on the module. For 25 people filing expenses, Emburse Spend Basic is $200 a month on monthly billing, and three BILL AP users on Essentials cost $147 a month plus ACH fees, by our arithmetic. Ramp Free and Brex Essentials add no software fee for the same company.
