Recurly Pricing 2026: Starter, All-Access and Add-Ons

Recurly pricing in 2026: Starter is $249 a month plus 0.9% of billing above $40K, All-Access is quoted. Effective rates, add-ons and rivals compared.

Recurly Pricing 2026: Starter, All-Access and Add-Ons

Recurly costs $249 a month plus 0.9% of billing volume on Starter, with the first $40K of billings each month carrying no percentage, read on Recurly's pricing page on October 18, 2026. All-Access is priced at as low as under 1% of billing volume on an annual contract with a $1M billing volume minimum. RevRec starts at $850 a month and Engage at $1,600 a month, both billed annually. A company billing $100,000 a month pays $789 a month on Starter.

The fixed fee is the small part. Because the percentage applies to everything above the exemption, the effective rate climbs toward 0.9% as volume grows, which is why the All-Access quote matters more than the Starter list price once a company passes a few hundred thousand dollars a month. This page prices four volumes, the add-ons and the point where a competitor undercuts Recurly. The Recurly review covers the product; this page covers only the bill.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 89 subscription billing tools for its subscription billing ranking updated October 17, 2026, and Recurly is the most cross-shopped of them, listed as an alternative to 60 other tools. That is why the price comparison further down matters: most Recurly buyers are also pricing a rival. Recurly's directory page is Recurly on Toolradar.

A subscription billing platform, for this audience, raises the recurring invoice, collects it, retries what fails and hands the revenue schedule to the ledger. Recurly prices the raising and collecting as a percentage of what flows through, and sells the revenue schedule separately.

What the Starter price actually bills

The fixed fee is a floor, not the fee. Recurly adds 0.9% of billing volume above the first $40K each month, so the exemption is worth $360 a month at most, and the pricing page does not define what counts as billing volume. Refunds, failed renewals and one-off charges are the lines to ask about, because a business with heavy involuntary churn can bill far more than it collects. Processing is not on the page either: card and ACH fees come from the gateway you connect, so budget them as a separate line.

Starter comes with a 90-day free trial, and the page attaches no stated card requirement or volume limit to it, so confirm both before relying on it. All-Access offers a free sandbox instead of a trial. Nothing on the page says whether Starter is month-to-month or an annual term; the annual wording appears only on All-Access and the add-ons, so get the Starter term in writing if you want the right to leave.

All-Access is a negotiation, not a price. "As low as under 1%" with that volume minimum means the rate depends on your volume and the features you take, and the number can land above Starter's effective rate as easily as below it. The table below shows why: Starter's effective rate never reaches 0.9%, so an All-Access quote at 0.95% is a price increase dressed as an upgrade. Buy All-Access for the features, not the rate.

Effective rate at four volumes

Our arithmetic: the Starter fixed fee plus 0.9% of the volume above $40,000, per month, on Starter. The effective rate is the total divided by the full volume. Totals exclude processing, taxes and add-ons.

Monthly billing volume Starter fee per month Starter fee per year Effective rate
$30,000 Fixed fee only, nothing above the exemption $2,988 0.83%
$100,000 $789 $9,468 0.79%
$300,000 $2,589 $31,068 0.86%
$1,000,000 $8,889 $106,668 0.89%

The cheapest point on the curve is exactly $40,000 a month, where the whole fixed fee is spread over the largest exempt volume, an effective 0.62%. Below that the business pays $249 for nothing but the fixed fee, which is an effective rate of 1.25% at $20,000 a month, so a very small subscription business is better served by a pure percentage model. Above it, every extra dollar carries the full 0.9%, and the effective rate climbs back toward that figure. Above $300,000 the fee is a rounding error on the percentage, and the question becomes whether an All-Access quote beats 0.9% by enough to pay for the annual commitment.

Where a competitor undercuts Recurly

On fees alone, Chargebee is cheaper above about $84,000 a month and Stripe Billing is cheaper everywhere except a band of roughly $36,000 to $55,000 a month. Chargebee Flow costs $0 plus 0.80% of monthly invoicing, or $99 plus 0.65%, and the base-fee option wins from its $66K breakeven upward, which is the line priced in the table below. Stripe Billing's pay-as-you-go rate is 0.7% of billing volume with no fixed fee, and Stripe's own card processing fees come on top. Recurly's case is not the fee; it is the dunning and churn tooling that the fee buys, and its connections to more than 20 payment gateways. The volume-by-volume matchup is in Chargebee vs Recurly, Chargebee's own tiers are in Chargebee pricing, the Stripe tiers are in Stripe Billing pricing 2026, and the wider shortlist is at best billing software.

Monthly volume Recurly Starter Chargebee Flow, with base fee Stripe Billing, pay as you go
$100,000 $789 $749 $700
$300,000 $2,589 $2,049 $2,100

Those are billing fees only, from each vendor's published rates. At the smaller volume the three are within $89 of each other, so the decision at that size is about features; at the larger volume Recurly costs $540 a month more than Chargebee, which is $6,480 a year, and the features have to be worth that. The Stripe Billing review and Chargebee alternatives cover the two rivals in depth.

RevRec and Engage: the add-ons that double the bill

RevRec starts at $850 a month, billed annually, and scales with billing volume. That is $10,200 a year at the floor, which is more than Starter's fixed fee for the whole year and close to Starter's whole yearly bill in the second row of the effective-rate table. It buys automated contract modifications, SSP automation, rules-driven allocations, real-time revenue insights and multi-GAAP compliance, which is the ASC 606 work a controller otherwise does in spreadsheets or in a standalone tool. Price it against the options in best revenue recognition software before assuming the in-platform add-on is cheaper.

Engage starts at $1,600 a month, billed annually, and scales with prompt volume. That is $19,200 a year at the floor, for a propensity-to-churn model, personalized cancel-save, upsell and cross-sell offers, A/B testing and advanced analytics. For a business billing $30,000 a month, that floor is more than 5% of annual billings before it saves a single subscriber, so Engage only makes sense at All-Access scale.

Who should pay for what

Pick Starter when monthly billing is between about $40,000 and $300,000, one dunning campaign is enough and you want the 90-day trial before committing. Under $40,000 the fixed fee makes the effective rate uncompetitive, and a percentage-only model costs less.

Pick All-Access when billing volume is past the All-Access minimum, when you need multicurrency, SSO, payments orchestration across several gateways or multiple dunning campaigns, and when you have negotiated a rate below Starter's effective 0.86% to 0.89%. Add Engage only at All-Access scale, and price RevRec against a standalone tool.

Skip Recurly when the business is tiny, when Stripe is already the processor and the feature list is short, or when the quoting layer matters: Recurly's pricing page lists no CPQ, which Chargebee sells. For the enterprise end, the Zuora review covers another platform built for large subscription volumes, and the best AR automation software guide covers collections once invoices are past due.

How we priced this

We read Recurly's pricing page, including the Starter, All-Access, All-Access for Shopify, Engage and RevRec sections, on October 18, 2026, and Chargebee's pricing page and Stripe Billing's pricing page the same day for the comparison rows. The effective rates and totals apply those published rates to example monthly volumes; they are our arithmetic, not Recurly quotes, and they exclude payment processing, taxes and any negotiated All-Access terms. We did not run billing on any of these platforms. Re-check the pricing page before you sign.

FAQ

How much does Recurly cost per month?

Starter is $249 a month plus 0.9% of billing volume, with the first $40K of billings each month carrying no percentage. A business billing $100,000 a month pays $789, and one billing $300,000 pays $2,589. All-Access is as low as under 1% of billing volume on an annual contract with a $1M billing volume minimum, and the exact rate is quoted.

Does Recurly have a free plan or trial?

There is no free plan. Starter comes with a 90-day free trial, and All-Access offers a free sandbox. The pricing page does not state whether the trial needs a card or caps volume, so confirm both with Recurly before you build on it.

What does Recurly RevRec cost?

RevRec is an add-on from $850 a month, billed annually, priced on billing volume, which is $10,200 a year at the floor. It automates contract modifications, SSP, rules-driven allocations and multi-GAAP reporting. It is sold separately from Starter and All-Access.

What does Recurly Engage cost?

Engage is an add-on from $1,600 a month, billed annually, priced on prompt volume and capability needs, or $19,200 a year at the floor. It adds a propensity-to-churn model, personalized cancel-save and upsell offers, A/B testing and advanced analytics, and it is built for All-Access scale businesses.

Is Recurly cheaper than Chargebee or Stripe Billing?

On billing fees alone, only in a narrow band. Chargebee Flow at $99 plus 0.65% is cheaper than Recurly Starter above about $84,000 a month, and Stripe Billing's 0.7% pay-as-you-go rate with no fixed fee is cheaper everywhere except roughly $36,000 to $55,000 a month. Recurly's advantage is the dunning and churn tooling and the choice of 20 or more gateways, not the rate.

What is the Recurly All-Access minimum?

All-Access requires $1M of billing volume and an annual contract, at a rate Recurly describes as "as low as under 1%". Starter's effective rate on our arithmetic is 0.79% to 0.89% across the three larger volumes in our table, so negotiate the All-Access rate below that band or buy it for the features alone.
