Zuora Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and Alternatives

What Zuora's billing, revenue and payments products cover, what buyers report paying with no list price to go on, and four billing platforms that publish theirs.

TL;DR

Zuora is worth it for an enterprise with complex quote-to-cash: many entities, many currencies, usage pricing at scale and auditors who want revenue recognition tied to billing. For anyone else it is usually too much platform for the price. Zuora publishes no list price. Vendr, a software purchasing platform, reports a median of $170,000 a year across 149 Zuora purchases, a third-party estimate rather than a Zuora price.

For contrast, Stripe Billing's highest published contract tier costs $5,750 a month, or $69,000 a year, for up to $1,000,000 of monthly billing volume, as read on 17 October 2026. A company billing less than that, on standard plans, should price Stripe Billing, Chargebee or Maxio before booking a Zuora demo.

Zuora sells to the top of the subscription billing market, and its pages say so: 1,000+ companies, customers such as Zoom, Ford, Zendesk and the Financial Times, and a billing engine its product page says processes over 400K invoices per hour. The question for a CFO is not whether Zuora can handle the volume. It is whether your billing is complex enough to pay an enterprise price for that headroom.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 365 reviews of Zuora across G2 and Capterra, averaging 3.9 out of 5 (311 on G2 and 54 on Capterra, both at 3.9, checked September 2026), and ranks it the 5th most-listed alternative among 89 subscription billing tools in its October 2026 data, on its Zuora profile. Methodology: product facts come from Zuora's own pages, read on 17 October 2026; the contract figure is Vendr's, labeled as such; the cost comparisons are our arithmetic on published prices. Nothing here comes from hands-on use of the product.

What is Zuora?

Zuora is a subscription monetization platform for finance and revenue teams.

Its home page lists six products: Zuora Billing for recurring, usage-based and one-time pricing; Zuora Revenue for revenue recognition and GAAP reporting; Zuora CPQ for quoting recurring deals; Zuora Payments for global payment processing; Zuora Collections for cash recovery; and AI paywalls under the Zephr brand for publishers.

Its about page says it is headquartered in Silicon Valley and employs more than 1,200 people.

How Zuora works

Zuora sits between the CRM and the general ledger. Quotes built in Zuora CPQ, or through its Salesforce CPQ and HubSpot connections, turn into subscriptions in Zuora Billing, which rates usage, generates invoices and collects payment through 40+ gateways and 20+ payment methods.

Zuora Revenue then turns billing events into revenue schedules for the close. The billing product page says it supports 50 pricing models and can stream up to 200,000 usage events per second, and the home page describes Milo, an implementation agent.

Every step is configured for the customer, which is why buyers should plan for a formal implementation project rather than a self-serve start.

Zuora key features

Pricing model flexibilityEssential
Recurring, usage-based, hybrid and multi-attribute pricing, with 50 pricing models listed on the billing page. This is Zuora's core reason to exist: a company whose packaging changes every quarter needs a billing engine that does not require code for each change.
Usage billing at scaleEssential
Streams up to 200,000 usage events per second, and the home page cites Zoom handling billions of usage events per day. That matters for infrastructure, AI and telecom pricing where every API call or minute is billed.
Revenue recognition
Zuora Revenue automates revenue recognition and GAAP reporting from billing data. For a public or pre-IPO company, keeping billing and revenue schedules in one vendor reduces reconciliation work at each close and audit.
Payments and collections
Zuora Payments connects to 40+ gateways and 20+ payment methods, and Zuora Collections adds AI-powered cash recovery, with AI-optimized retry logic named on the billing page. A company can keep its existing processors.
Quoting (CPQ)
Zuora CPQ builds proposals for recurring deals, and the billing page lists Salesforce CPQ and HubSpot connections. Sales-negotiated contracts flow into billing without rekeying, the main source of invoicing errors in enterprise SaaS.
Invoice volume
Processes over 400K invoices per hour, per the billing page. Only very high-volume billers will need that ceiling, but it removes any doubt about bill runs at month end.

Zuora pricing

Zuora publishes no list price. Its pricing page describes pricing and packaging software and points visitors to a demo or a conversation with an expert, with no plans, tiers or amounts; we read it on 17 October 2026. The Zuora Billing product page lists capabilities but no price either.

Third-party estimate: Vendr, a software purchasing platform, reports that the median buyer pays $170,000 a year for Zuora, based on 149 purchases, with a low of $26,883 and a high of $696,804 in its data. That is Vendr's figure, not Zuora's, and contracts in it may bundle several Zuora products, so treat it as a range to test a quote against, not a price.

Our comparison: Stripe Billing lists a contract tier at $5,750 a month for up to $1,000,000 of monthly billing volume, which is $69,000 a year. Stripe's pay-as-you-go rate of 0.7% would only reach the Vendr median at about $2.0M of monthly billings. Chargebee's Flow plan at $99 a month plus 0.65% comes to about $79,188 a year at $1,000,000 a month, and Maxio's Grow plan is $599 a month up to $100,000 of monthly billings. If your billing fits those published plans, Zuora's premium mostly buys headroom you may never use, so price the published plans first.

Who Zuora is for

Zuora fits an enterprise or late-stage company with sales-negotiated contracts, several legal entities and currencies, usage pricing that changes often, and an audit committee that wants revenue recognition driven straight from billing. Its named customers, from Zoom to Ford, show the profile. The more of those boxes you tick, the more Zuora's price buys. Such teams should also read our revenue recognition guide and our multi-entity accounting guide, since the ledger choice shapes the integration.

It is a poor fit for a SaaS company on a few standard plans, a team without a dedicated billing or revenue operations owner, or a buyer who needs a price before a demo. Those teams will get live faster, and pay less, on a published plan such as those in our best billing software ranking.

The bottom line

Zuora earns its price at the top of the market: multi-entity, multi-currency, usage-heavy billing with revenue recognition the auditors rely on. If that is your company, ask for a quote that splits Billing, Revenue, CPQ and Payments, ask for the implementation estimate in writing, and test the number against Vendr's reported range. If it is not, a published plan from Stripe Billing, Chargebee, Recurly or Maxio will cost a fraction of the reported median.

For the full cost comparison of the mid-market options, see our Chargebee alternatives page and our Stripe Billing review. If the billing decision comes with an ERP change, read our NetSuite review and NetSuite pricing guide. Cross-check the alternatives on Toolradar: Chargebee, Recurly, Maxio and Stripe Billing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Zuora cost in 2026?

Zuora publishes no list price; its pricing page routes buyers to a demo, as read on 17 October 2026. Vendr, a third-party purchasing platform, reports a median of $170,000 a year across 149 Zuora purchases, with a low of $26,883 and a high of $696,804. Treat that as a benchmark for a quote, not as Zuora's price.

Is Zuora worth it?

For an enterprise with multi-entity, multi-currency and usage-heavy billing, and revenue recognition that must tie to billing, it is worth a demo. For a SaaS company on a few standard plans, published platforms such as Stripe Billing or Maxio cover the need at a fraction of the reported median contract.

What does Zuora include?

Zuora sells six products: Billing, Revenue for revenue recognition and GAAP reporting, CPQ for quoting, Payments, Collections, and AI paywalls under the Zephr brand. Billing supports 50 pricing models and connects to 40+ payment gateways. Each product is quoted, so ask for the price split by product.

How is Zuora rated by users?

Toolradar's aggregate is 3.9 out of 5 from 365 reviews, with both G2 and Capterra at 3.9, checked in September 2026. That is below Chargebee's 4.4 on the same aggregate, so reference calls with customers of your size are worth asking for.

What are the best Zuora alternatives?

Stripe Billing publishes every contract tier below its custom band, Chargebee's Flow plan publishes its rate and its Enterprise plan adds multi-entity, Recurly's All-Access plan is priced at under 1% of volume, and Maxio's Grow plan is $599 a month. Zuora remains the pick for the most complex enterprise billing.
