TL;DR

BILL Spend & Expense is worth it in 2026 for a US company that will pay its card off weekly and use most of its credit line every month. The software costs $0 per user per month, the BILL Divvy Card carries a $0 annual fee, and credit lines run from $1,000 to $5M subject to approval, all checked on BILL's pricing and card pages in October 2026.

The catch is in the rewards. Points cannot be redeemed for the first 12 months, a month's points are forfeited if you spend under 30% of your credit line, and the boosted multipliers stop after the first $5,000 of spend each month. A company that pays monthly and keeps a large unused line will earn little; it should compare Ramp or the Expensify Card before signing.

Buy BILL Spend & Expense when the finance team wants free cards, budgets and receipt capture for every employee, and when the company can live with a weekly payoff schedule. Skip it when the main reason to switch is a predictable cash-back percentage, because BILL's points depend on billing cycle, category and how much of the line you use.

Toolradar data: Toolradar's expense management ranking tracks 87 tools as of October 2026, 49% of them free, freemium or open source, with a median cheapest paid plan of $12 a month across the 38 that publish one. BILL Spend & Expense sits at the top of that list and charges nothing for software, so the real cost question is not the seat price but what the card program gives back and what it takes away.

What is BILL Spend & Expense?

BILL Spend & Expense, sold as Divvy before BILL folded it into its own brand, is a corporate card and expense platform. Every employee can get physical or virtual BILL Divvy Cards with budgets and limits, receipts are captured in the mobile app and matched to transactions, and out-of-pocket expenses and mileage are reimbursed by ACH or through payroll.

It is a separate product from BILL's accounts payable plans, which cost $49 to $89 per user a month. A company can run Spend & Expense free without paying for AP, and accountants get a free partner version to manage clients. The card is issued by one of Divvy Pay, LLC's bank partners and is a Visa Signature Business card.

How BILL Spend & Expense works

An application starts with eligibility: BILL's card FAQ asks for a registered business such as an LLC or corporation, a US business bank account and an EIN. BILL says applying online has no impact on your credit, and it underwrites in one of three ways: a fixed line set from business financials and creditworthiness, a variable line that scales with cash flow, revenue and spending patterns, or a pre-funded line where you put money up front. All three are rewards eligible with no annual fee, and BILL notes that other fees may apply under the Cardholder Agreement.

Once approved, admins create budgets, issue cards against them and set rules; employees request funds in the app and snap receipts at the point of sale. Transactions sync to QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft and Xero. Your billing cycle, weekly, semi-monthly or monthly, decides both how often you repay the card and which points multiplier you earn.

BILL Spend & Expense pricing

BILL lists Spend & Expense at $0 per user per month on its pricing page, read 21 October 2026, and its card page lists no annual fee for fixed, variable and pre-funded lines. The rewards page prints the multipliers and point values used below.

What the points are worth. BILL values 100,000 points at $520 as cash back, $510 as gift cards and $490 as statement credit. That makes 1x roughly 0.52% back as cash, so the weekly everything-else rate of 1.5x is about 0.78% and the 7x restaurant rate about 3.64%, our arithmetic.

Scenario, our arithmetic: a company with a $50,000 line spends $20,000 a month, and its first $5,000 each month is $1,000 of restaurants, $2,000 of software and $2,000 of other spend. On weekly payoff that earns 36,500 points a month, about $190 in cash back, or roughly $2,278 a year once redemption opens. On monthly payoff the same spend earns 22,000 points, about $114 a month. The Expensify Card pays 1% on US purchases, $200 a month on the same spend, but Expensify's Collect plan costs $5 per member a month, so a 15-person team nets about $125.

Watch out: the same company spending under $15,000 in a month, 30% of its line, forfeits that month's points entirely, and a company that leaves before its first 12 months are up never redeems. Foreign transactions and Plastiq or Melio payments earn no points, so read the rewards terms before routing vendor payments through the card.

Methodology: prices and terms come from BILL's pricing, card, credit and rewards pages and the competitors' own pricing pages (Ramp, Brex, Expensify, Navan), read in October 2026. We do not test products; the scenario applies BILL's published multipliers and point values to stated spend.

Who BILL Spend & Expense is for

BILL Spend & Expense fits a registered US business that wants every team on a card with a budget and can pay the card down weekly. It suits finance teams already on QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Xero, and teams already using BILL for payables who want spend in the same login.

Skip it when rewards are the business case and your spend is uneven: a seasonal company that dips below the minimum share of its line in a slow month loses that month's points. Skip it too if you want a flat, published cash-back rate; the Expensify Card's flat rate is easier to forecast. Companies that mainly need travel booking should look at Navan first.

The bottom line

BILL Spend & Expense is the strongest free option for a company that wants cards and expense control without a per-user bill, and its rewards are generous for teams that pay weekly and keep spend above 30% of the line. It is a weaker buy when rewards drive the decision and spend is seasonal, because forfeiture rules and the 12-month wait reduce what you actually collect.

Choose Ramp for a comparable free tier with paid automation, Brex for a published Premium seat price, Expensify for a flat-rate cash-back card, and Navan when travel is the main spend. Frequently asked questions

Is BILL Spend & Expense worth it in 2026?

Yes, for a US company that pays its card weekly and uses a large share of its credit line every month. The software has no per-user fee and the BILL Divvy Card has no annual fee, as of October 2026. It is a weaker choice when rewards are the main goal and spend is seasonal, because a slow month below the spending threshold forfeits that month's points.

Is Divvy the same as BILL Spend & Expense?

Yes. BILL describes Spend & Expense as formerly Divvy, and the card is now called the BILL Divvy Card, issued by one of Divvy Pay, LLC's bank partners. The software and card are the same product family under BILL's brand.

How much does BILL Spend & Expense cost?

BILL lists Spend & Expense at $0 per user per month, separate from its accounts payable plans that run $49 to $89 per user a month. The card's fixed, variable and pre-funded lines all carry no annual fee, though BILL says other fees may apply under the Cardholder Agreement.

How do BILL Divvy Card rewards work?

Points depend on your billing cycle and category. Weekly payoff earns 7x on restaurants, 5x on hotels, 2x on recurring software and 1.5x on everything else; monthly payoff earns 2x, 2x, 1.5x and 1x. The boosted rates apply to the first $5,000 each month, and 100,000 points redeem for $520 as cash back.

Can you lose BILL rewards points?

Yes. BILL forfeits a month's points if you spend under 30% of your credit line that month, all accrued points if you spend nothing in a month or are delinquent, and all points if you are not a customer at the end of the first 12 months. Redemption also needs at least 5,000 points.
