BlackLine Review 2026
What the platform package includes, which Verity agents can sit outside it, and four close tools to quote on the same scope.
BlackLine is worth a quote when matching and account substantiation slow the close, and it publishes no buyer price. The midsize page describes a platform package with unlimited users. At June 30, 2026, platform pricing was 17% of eligible annual recurring revenue, so most of that book is still on other terms.
Verity Prepare has been generally available since July 2026, but the midsize page promises only select agents inside the package. The company says agent usage is starting to produce its own revenue, so a platform quote can grow after you sign. If the bottleneck is the checklist rather than the match rate, price FloQast on the same entity list before you book the demo.
Key factsBest for: Controllers whose close time goes to reconciliations and…
- Quote-only close and reconciliation platform, with unlimited users on the midsize package and Verity that can bill apart.
- Founded: 2001, per the company about page
- Customers: 4,260 at June 30, 2026, per the earnings release
- Free plan: None. Product pages route buyers to a demo.
- Toolradar rating: 4.5 out of 5 from 1,103 G2 reviews
Pros
- The midsize page describes a platform package with unlimited users, Studio360, and select Verity agents, subject to availability, so headcount does not add a seat line
- Verity Prepare, generally available since July 27, 2026, drafts the reconciliation and keeps an audit trail for the human sign-off
- The financial close page spans reconciliations, matching, journals, tasks, consolidation, compliance, and Smart Close for SAP
Cons
- No list price on the product pages or in the earnings release, so implementation, entities, and term length stay unknown until the quote
- The CEO said Verity usage is starting to generate direct revenue, so a platform quote can still grow when agents are added

Buy BlackLine when reconciliations and high-volume matching stall the close, because that is the work the product takes off a controller's calendar. There is no public rate to multiply by users, entities, or accounts, so the budget stays a guess until a demo produces an order form.
The only commercial path on the site is a demo request, which rules out a team that needs a number before any sales call.
Methodology: product claims, the midsize licensing language, and the competitor pages below were checked on 16 October 2026.
The customer count and the platform-pricing mix come from BlackLine's own earnings release for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
Five products are compared on public scope and on whether a buyer price exists.
Vendor case results are reported as the vendor's claims, and this page does not rest on a product trial.
Toolradar data: among 632 Finance tools tracked, BlackLine is listed as an alternative to 9 tools, against a peer median of 3, and 31% of those tools offer a free plan.
BlackLine does not. That listing shows 4.5 out of 5 from 1,103 G2 reviews. The figure is from Toolradar's BlackLine page, read on 16 October 2026.
What is BlackLine?
BlackLine is cloud software for the financial close, covering account reconciliations, transaction matching, journal entries, task management, and consolidation, with Verity AI agents inside those workflows. Substantiation, match exceptions, and the sign-off trail stay beside the ledger you already run.
The purchase does not retire the general ledger, so the ERP contract remains a separate bill.
The company about page says it was founded in 2001, so this close vendor is long established.
The earnings release reports 4,260 customers, and a separately invoiced subsidiary counts as its own customer, so the headline is not a count of independent groups. The wider shortlist of close platforms is in best close management software.
How BlackLine works
Data comes in from the ERP, banks, and subledgers, and every extra source is a connector to scope, not a checkbox. Transaction Matching applies rules, flags exceptions, and can push reconciling items and adjusting journals onto the reconciliation, so the break posts from the match.
Verity Prepare drafts that reconciliation, and a person still approves it.
The July 27, 2026 announcement says each recommendation carries reasoning, a confidence score, and an audit trail, so the draft is defensible to an auditor.
Task Management is the close calendar of owners, deadlines, and overdue work, useful when the pain is ownership rather than the match.
Journal Entry posts to the ERP from reconciliations, matching results, or a data feed, and threshold approvals hold a large journal for a person.
Smart Close for SAP runs that coordination inside SAP, from headquarters to local entities, which matters only if you will keep SAP.
Read FloQast vs BlackLine before you treat the checklist and the match rate as the same job.
The midsize page says most teams in its target band go live within five days, while configurations on that page are measured in weeks.
Treat both lines as sales copy, and put the calendar, the entities, and the connector in the statement of work. Read the NetSuite review before you price a close tool on a ledger you may replace.
BlackLine key features
BlackLine pricing
BlackLine publishes no list price, so the cost is whatever the order form says after a demo, and a seat times price worksheet would be fiction.
The midsize page is written for companies with annual revenue of $100 million to $750 million.
It describes one platform package: unlimited users from day one, no per-seat cap, Studio360, and select Verity agents subject to availability.
A buyer can also start with account reconciliations, financial close management, or journal entry.
Those two lines pull in different directions: one denies modular add-on fees, and the other tells you to start with a module.
A quote labeled platform can still be a smaller bundle, so name every product before you compare it with a module price.
The earnings release for that quarter is the other half of the pricing picture.
Platform pricing was 17% of eligible annual recurring revenue, and eligible ARR excludes SAP solutions-extensions (SolEx) plus public sector revenue.
A buyer in either excluded book should not assume the midsize package is the offer they will get.
$17 of every $100 of that eligible book was on the new model, which means a renewal can still follow the older terms.
Owen Ryan, the CEO, said on that release that Verity usage is monetizing two ways: conversion onto the platform, and direct revenue from the agents.
A low platform quote can still grow when Prepare, Match, or Accruals is switched on.
General availability of Prepare, in the Verity Prepare announcement, means the agent can be sold, while inclusion is a separate line on the order form.
Ask for one written quote that lists the platform package or the older terms, the user language, and each product in the table below.
Mark each Verity agent as included or billed apart, and name the entity count, the ERP connector, implementation, and the contract length.
Send that same sheet to FloQast, Trintech, Numeric, and Workiva so the quotes describe the same scope.
FloQast pricing shows three packages and no per-user fee, Numeric pricing weighs the quote by transactions and seats, and Workiva pricing shows unlimited seats with no dollar figure.
Neither Cadency nor Adra shows a price, and the Adra ceilings sit in the standard statement of work.
The SiriusXM match rate is on the transaction matching page, and the suite span is on the financial close product page.
The founding date is on the about page, and where agents belong in a finance stack is covered in best AI for the financial close.

BlackLine pros and cons
What we like
- The midsize page describes a platform package with unlimited users, Studio360, and select Verity agents, subject to availability, so headcount does not add a seat line
- Verity Prepare, generally available since July 27, 2026, drafts the reconciliation and keeps an audit trail for the human sign-off
- The financial close page spans reconciliations, matching, journals, tasks, consolidation, compliance, and Smart Close for SAP
What could be better
- No list price on the product pages or in the earnings release, so implementation, entities, and term length stay unknown until the quote
- The CEO said Verity usage is starting to generate direct revenue, so a platform quote can still grow when agents are added
Who BlackLine is for
BlackLine fits a controller or CFO whose close hours go to balance-sheet substantiation, high-volume matching, and journal control.
The strongest fit is the vendor's midsize band, $100 million to $750 million of annual revenue, which is who the platform package is written for.
It also fits a larger group that wants consolidation, intercompany eliminations, and a compliance workspace, though that group may still be quoted the older terms.
The midsize page says more than half of customers are mid-market, so the package page is the common case.
A SAP S/4HANA shop has the one connector the page confirms by name. Other ledgers sit under a claim of virtually any general ledger, so get the connector named in writing before you rely on it.
Compare that claim with the stacks in the Sage Intacct review and the NetSuite vs Sage Intacct comparison.
It is a poor fit when you need a number this week, because the only path is a demo and the order form comes later.
A small team with a light reconciliation list will pay for suite depth it will not use, and the short go-live line does not describe a multi-ERP rollout.
If the pain is the checklist and the sign-off, start with FloQast.
If the pain is the board pack, read Workiva alternatives. If planning is the project, price Planful, which Adra pairs with the path from close to plan.

| Numeric | NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage Intacct teams that want close modules on the current ledger | Quoted from transaction volume and seats, modules can be mixed, and no | Visit → |

The bottom line
Shortlist BlackLine when reconciliations, matching, and journal control slow the close, and send a written scope before you compare quotes.
The platform package with unlimited users is the midsize offer, and the latest filing shows it is a minority of eligible recurring revenue.
The contract you are offered may still be the older terms, and agent usage can be its own bill, so mark each agent included or extra.
Pick FloQast for the checklist and the sign-off, not for the match rate.
Pick Trintech Cadency when a large group wants named SAP, Oracle, and NetSuite connectors, and Adra when the deployment fits the standard services ceiling.
Pick Numeric when the ledger is one of the four it names, and Workiva when the tied-out report is the missing piece.
Its BlackLine connector pulls BlackLine reports into that reporting layer, so Workiva often sits beside the reconciliation engine rather than replacing it.
