The Best Workiva Alternatives in 2026

Eight SEC filing, board reporting and ESG platforms compared with Workiva, which names no price, on the figures each vendor shows in October 2026.

TL;DR

The direct SEC filing rivals to Workiva are DFIN ActiveDisclosure and Toppan Merrill Bridge, and both are quote-only. The only published prices here are Fathom Pro at $450 a month for up to 25 companies and Persefoni Pro at $0. Workiva publishes no price, so none of these figures can be set against it.

Fathom and Persefoni do different jobs. Fathom covers management reporting and consolidation, Persefoni covers carbon accounting and a first ESG report, and neither replaces Workiva's SEC filing work. For ESG, Persefoni is the only free start, while Greenly, Watershed and IBM Envizi sell on a call. Pick the job first, then ask for the number.

Key facts8 tools compared: DFIN ActiveDisclosure, Toppan Merrill Bridge, Fathom, Datarails, Persefoni…
  • Updated: October 11, 2026
  • Top pick: DFIN ActiveDisclosure (best for: Public companies filing 10-Ks, 10-Qs and proxy statements that want XBRL tagging from the Excel models they already run)
  • Top pick price as of October 11, 2026: DFIN ActiveDisclosure: Custom quote; the product page names no price and routes to a demo
  • 8 tools compared: DFIN ActiveDisclosure, Toppan Merrill Bridge, Fathom, Datarails, Persefoni, Greenly, Watershed, IBM Envizi
  • Toppan Merrill Bridge (best for: Companies that file on EDGAR and want iXBRL submissions produced inside Microsoft 365): Custom quote; the Bridge page names no price and routes to a contact form
  • Fathom (best for: Finance teams with several entities that need consolidation, management reporting and cash flow forecasting on one published rate): $450 a month for Pro with 25 companies; $17 per extra company; Enterprise quoted above 50
  • Datarails (best for: Finance teams that run FP&A and board decks in Excel and want the workbook kept, not replaced): Custom quote by users and integrations; no free plan or trial

A Workiva alternative is software that takes over one piece of Workiva's work: SEC and financial disclosure filing, management and board reporting, or ESG data for a sustainability report. Workiva sells the three on one platform, and its pricing page names no figure.

This page therefore compares each option on what it publishes.

Cfopresso data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, lists 71 direct alternatives to Workiva as of October 2026 (Toolradar's Workiva alternatives).

None of the first ten on that list is an SEC filing platform. Most of the first 24 are quality, food-safety, EHS, LCA or risk tools, so that list is a poor shortlist for a CFO.

This page narrows it to the three jobs above.

How we ranked: we checked the live product and pricing pages of eight vendors in October 2026 and kept a vendor only if a finance team can buy it for one of those three jobs.

The order runs from the closest rival to Workiva's filing work to the carbon-first tools.

What it is

Each of Workiva's three jobs has its own rivals. The first is SEC and financial disclosure: drafting 10-Ks and 10-Qs and tagging them in XBRL or iXBRL before the filing deadline.

The second is management and board reporting, which sits closer to financial consolidation and planning.

The third is ESG and sustainability reporting, which overlaps the carbon tools in our ESG reporting software ranking.

Each alternative below is strong on one of those jobs and weak on the others.

The honest test is which job you are replacing, and whether that job has a price you can see before a sales call. The close that feeds all three is covered in our AI for the financial close ranking.

Why it matters

Choosing by brand is how a team ends up with two systems and two closes. A filing tool that cannot take consolidated numbers forces a second copy of the same figures.

Our AI financial reporting ranking covers the numbers side of the board deck, and the FP&A software ranking covers planning.

Groups with several legal entities should check consolidation depth first, as our multi-entity accounting ranking explains.

Teams that still run a full ERP should also read our NetSuite alternatives before they buy a second reporting layer.

Price is the first filter because it is the one a CFO can compare in an afternoon.

Fathom publishes a base fee plus a per-company rate, the one published structure here a finance lead can model in a spreadsheet. For a group of 30 companies it comes to $535 a month, or $6,420 over a year on monthly billing. Nothing equivalent is published for Workiva, so any saving against it stays unknown until a quote arrives.

Toolradar's profiles of Persefoni, Greenly, Watershed and IBM Envizi cover the same ESG options for readers who want the category view.

Key features to look for

Job coverage
Most tools here cover one of the three Workiva jobs. DFIN ActiveDisclosure also lists ESG disclosures, so the line between filing and sustainability reporting is blurring. Check which job each product's own page leads with.
Published vs. quote-only pricing
Only Fathom and Persefoni name a number for a plan a buyer can pick. Persefoni's Pro is free and Fathom's Pro has a fixed monthly rate. The other six require a call.
Billing unit
Companies connected (Fathom), users and integrations (Datarails, per our review), or data volume (IBM Envizi). Choose the vendor whose unit grows at the rate your group grows.
Audit trail behind each number
A filing or ESG report is only as good as the trail behind each figure: source files, tagging and an approval log. Ask every vendor to show that trail on a live example, not a slide.
Free entry point
Persefoni Pro is the only free plan on this list. It covers scope 1, 2 and 3 accounting and a CSRD, ISSB and CDP report builder, with no card required and no trial period.

Pricing

Workiva's pricing page says it uses good, better and best packaging for some solutions and prices the rest to customer needs, then sends buyers to a contact form. Toolradar lists its plan as Enterprise, custom priced. Checked in October 2026, no Workiva tier carries a dollar figure, so no row above can be checked against a Workiva price.

Fathom publishes the most usable rate on this list. The base Pro fee covers 25 companies, and each extra company adds the per-company rate. A group of 30 companies pays $535 a month, which is the base fee plus five extra companies, or $6,420 a year at monthly billing ($535 x 12).

The plan is pay as you go with no contract, and the Portfolio plan at $67 a month is marketed to accounting firms.

Persefoni is the only other vendor on this list with a published price: its Pro plan is $0 with no card and no trial period, and its Advanced tier needs a demo.

DFIN, Toppan Merrill Bridge, Datarails, Greenly, IBM Envizi and Watershed publish no list price on the pages we checked.

Envizi's pricing follows data volume and its calculator gives an indicative figure, and Datarails offers free Excel templates. Our Datarails review covers the FP&A side in more depth.

Mistakes to avoid
×Comparing Fathom's monthly Pro price with Workiva's invoice. Fathom's feature list has no SEC filing output, so the comparison holds only for management reporting and consolidation.
×Treating Persefoni Pro as a filing tool. It is free, but it covers carbon accounting and a sustainability report, not the 10-K or the XBRL behind it.
×Asking for a quote without a scope. Datarails scopes by users and integrations, IBM Envizi by data volume and Greenly by sector difficulty, so a quote without those inputs cannot be compared.
Expert tips
→Name the Workiva job you are replacing before you open a tab: filing, board reporting or ESG. Each job has a different short list here, and mixing them is how comparisons go wrong.
→Give each quote-only vendor your real scope in the first email: users and integrations for Datarails, data volume for IBM Envizi and sector for Greenly. An answer without those inputs does not show what you would pay.
→Ask for a filing or report built on your own numbers. A demo on sample data hides the audit trail, which is the part an auditor will test.

The bottom line

DFIN ActiveDisclosure and Toppan Merrill Bridge are the direct rivals for Workiva's SEC filing work, and neither names a price. For a finance team that needs management reporting and consolidation at a stated cost, Fathom Pro is the only published price in that job.

For ESG, Persefoni Pro is free to start, while Greenly, Watershed and IBM Envizi all price on a call.

For the full ESG shortlist, see our ESG reporting ranking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Workiva alternative in 2026?
It depends on the job. For SEC filing, DFIN ActiveDisclosure and Toppan Merrill Bridge are the direct rivals, and both are quote-only. For management reporting and consolidation with a published price, Fathom Pro covers up to 25 companies on one flat monthly fee. For ESG, Persefoni Pro is free to start.
How much does Workiva cost?
Workiva publishes no price. Its pricing page describes good, better and best packaging for some solutions, routes buyers to a contact form and names no figure. Toolradar lists its plan as Enterprise, custom priced.
Is there a free Workiva alternative?
Persefoni Pro is free with no card and no trial period, and it includes a CSRD and ISSB report builder. It covers carbon accounting and sustainability reports, not SEC filing or board packs. No SEC filing tool on this list has a free plan.
How much does Fathom cost compared with Workiva?
Fathom Pro is $450 a month with 25 companies included, plus $17 per extra company. A group of 30 companies pays $535 a month, or $6,420 a year on monthly billing. Workiva's price is not published, so the saving can only be measured after a Workiva quote.
Can Fathom replace Workiva for SEC filings?
No. Fathom covers management reporting, consolidation, KPI analysis and cash flow forecasting. Its feature list has no SEC filing or iXBRL tagging, so a public company still needs a filing tool such as DFIN ActiveDisclosure or Toppan Merrill Bridge.
Which Workiva alternative covers ESG reporting?
Persefoni Pro for a free first inventory and CSRD or ISSB report, Greenly for an outside carbon assessment with free calculators, Watershed for enterprise carbon data, or IBM Envizi for ESG data priced on volume. Only Persefoni publishes a price for its entry plan.
